Site Setup

Preferences give you the ability to customize features that are unique to myPHPNuke. The following table shows you each of the settings available and what they do. Default settings (where applicable) are in bold.

Setting Description Options
Split Login / New User Page This is a mostly a question of aesthetics. Would you like all of this on one page together, or separated? Yes / No
New User Registration duplicate Key Fix There have been problems with some PHPNuke databases where new users registration would fail with the following error. Error: 1062 Duplicate entry "2147483647" for key 1. The duplicate key fix come default enabled. To cover all your bases, leave it enabled. Yes / No
Activate Output Compression This feature will instruct the PHP engine to use output compression on documents which can lead to faster page loading. Note: There known bugs associated with this feature in PHP engine versions below 4.2. Try it out if you want. If you start having problems with your site then disable it. Yes / No
Put Poll buttons on separate lines This setting is a relic of the past that has never been removed. The poll buttons (options) will be placed on separate lines in version 1.8.8 regardless of what you choose for this setting. Yes / No
Use Timezone in formatTimestamp Enabling this will instruct the script to add the servers Timezone to anything that has a timestamp (articles, comments, forum posts, etc...). Yes / No
Set the Server Timezone via putenv This will allow you to change the hosts (servers) Timezone setting in order to ensure all your timestamp are formatted the same. This feature may or may not be supported by your host. Yes / No
Which Timezone Sets which Timezone you want for your timestamp. Locate the closest country and city listed in the third column (TZ) that applies to your time zone, and enter that into the text box. Note: Your host may not allow you to set a time zone for your site. While there is no default setting for this option, if you don't specify a time zone, AND you have chosen to format the time stamp with a time zone, it will use your servers/hosts time zone setting. Examples: Europe/Andorra, America/New_York, America/Los_Angeles, Europe/Zurich
Host uses PHP safe_mode If your web host is using PHP safe_mode, choose yes. Yes / No
Use mysql_pconnect If your host uses mysql_pconnect, choose yes. This feature is for hosts and servers that configure MySQL for connections that remain open instead of being renegotiated at every request. This feature will generally speed up page loading if your host supports it. Yes / No
Sections can only be viewed by registered users If you want to limit viewing sections to registered users only, choose yes. Yes / No
Activate random quotes Either enable or disable the random quotes side block. In order to use the random quote block, it also must be added to the visible blocks using the blocks administration. Yes / No
Display the fetching display box This will allow you to display a cool "Fetching Requested Page" box. This box pops up in the middle of the screen while pages are loading. This feature will not be available in mPN2. Yes / No
Display headlines in a scrolling box This setting will enable java script scrolling of the Headlines Block. Note: Scrolling headlines can introduce significant lag during page loading. Choose to enable this feature with caution. If you are having problems, please check your directory permissions for the "cache" before posting questions on the MPN forum. Yes / No
Display the old news in a scrolling box Displays old news in a scrolling side block. This feature is the same as the Headlines block. News that is no longer being displayed on the main page will be in this block. Yes / No
Display the Netscape Opendir in the links Open Directory is a Goggle type link repository maintained by Netscape. This feature will embed Open Directory at the bottom of your Web Links page. Yes / No
Display a numberof recent topics from the forum at the first page: This will enable a center block showing the most recent posts made on the forum. Private forum posts are not shown here. Yes / No
Number of Forum Topics To Display In The Above Block Set the number of recent forum topics that you want to be displayed at the first page or your website. Specify a number.
Display the last seen box: This activates the Last Seen Block which displays a list of members that have been on your site recently. The amount of time that is tracked is set in the next option. Yes / No
How many days should the last seen entries stay in the database. Sets the number of days the database will store a list of member visits for display in the Last Seen Block. The default for this setting is 10 Specify a Number.
Display the What's new box at the first page Sets whether or not the "What's New" center block is displayed at the top of your sites main page. This block will show you the most recent activity and posts made on the site. Yes / No
Display ChatboxII This option allows you to turn the ChatboxII on and off along with choosing how you want it displayed. If you want to display the ChatboxII in a side block you must also add the block in the block preferences. None / Center Block / Side Block
How many entries are displayed per section on the What's new Page. This will set how many news articles are displayed on your "What's New Page" that is linked from the "What's New" center block on the main page. The default setting is 5. Specify a Number.
How many entries per page in the update log. This allows you to set how many entries will show per page in your update log. The default setting is 10. Specify a Number
How strict is the test for new user nicknames Sets how strict the rules are for new users choosing their nicknames. This basically changes what characters are allowed for nicknames. strict, medium, loose
Name of webmaster Choose a name you want displayed as webmaster. Your Name
Subject for the confirmation message from the contact us This will be the subject line for the confirmation e-mail that is sent to a user after using the contact us page. Your custom subject line
Mail password to New User If you want to e-mail new users their password, select yes. If you select no then the password will be displayed on the new user welcome page. Yes / No
Mail ADMIN the password to new user Select yes to have all new users passwords mailed to you. Yes / No
Mail ADMIN on New User Registration Select yes to be notified by e-mail when a new user registers. Yes / No
Mail ADMIN on New Comment or Reply Select yes to be notified by e-mail when a new comment or reply is posted. Yes / No
Mail ADMIN on New Poll Comment or Reply Select yes to be notified by e-mail when a new Poll comment or reply is posted. Yes / No
Mail ADMIN on New Forum Topic Select yes to be notified by e-mail when new topics are posted in the forum. Yes / No
Mail ADMIN on New Guestbook entry Select yes to be notified by e-mail when new Guestbook entries are made. Yes / No
