Running the Install

Now you are ready to run the install. Open your browser and type in the address to the folder you installed MPN into, and the file install.php. This should look something like this:

If you have the files uploaded and the address entered correctly, you should see the first page of the install.

Hey, why do I get a warning on the first page?

The installation program executes a number of checks right after the start to make sure that all the essential parts of your site are in good shape. There are checks to see if the PHP and mySQL versions meet the minimum requirements. Other checks are done to make sure that all the files that the installationprogramm wants to write to are writeble. Every file or directory that has insufficient rights will be displayed with an error message on the first page of the installationprogram.

When everything installs just fine...

The installationprogram will make necessary changes to your configuration files and your database tables. When you do a fresh install, that's what you want and what you expect from the program. When you run the install program over an existing installation, these changes might be wrong for you, so make sure that you have a valid back-up set of your website. Most hostingproviders give you the option to make a backup of your website through the Site Control Panel. Don't forget to make a back-up of your database tables to!
