Really - trini0 and Kiril are absolutely busting their butts creating their respective versions of myPHPNuke... and the saying 'All good things to those who wait...' very much applies in this instance.
There is nothing wrong with the features of the current version of myPHPNuke - so having a site built on it is offering plenty to site owner and user alike.
And, when the upgrade and full scale revamp come, at their respective times, I'm certain you'll be glad you had the patience to wait for it.
I can be reasonably certain that trini0 and Kiril are not holding back simply to scupper your web site creation plans...

Ditto.
Posting a note here since Fean also raised a question.
mPN2, and what is now being dubbed as mPnx ( previously known as 1.9 ), are two different versions of MPN. Feans question was how do I choose? Well, your choice will be based on what you need the portal to do, simple as that. mPN2 is being designed as a standalone, streamline portal, while mPnx ( while still supporting standalone installs ) is primarily intended for hosting multiple sites using a common set of files.
189 is taking alot longer than I had anticipated because it has now turned into a bridging version release from the current MPN188_7 and mPnx. The reason for this is because I don't want to force people to continually upgrade and rework/recode any hacks they have.
Doing an upgrade on your site takes alot of time, therefore 189 is being coded so you should only need to do a major upgrade once, then minor upgrades ( based on changes between 189 and mPnx ) afterwards. It is also intended to put core code in place for people to use for coding mPnx compatible modules / blocks / and themes.
Per above, this means 189 will contain a good portion of the userland core code that will be used in mPnx along with a new 'unified' Gallery that will be used in all upcoming versions.
It is also worth mentioning that 189 will not represent a complete recode as it is intended as a bridging release. This means that some modules will be fully converted/recoded, the rest will only contain changes in order to fit into the new core, the full recode will come with mPnx.
Another thing worth mentioning is any major module that I re-develop I will also code an mPN2 version of it. The first major module recode for co-version distribution will be downloads, which if time permits, you might see in the final 189 release.
